parent teacher conferences

And the reports are in. The synopses are as follows...

Savannah...
  • is such a "lovely young lady"
  • very smart, but only does the minimum
  • turns work in "too early"
  • more interested in socializing than academics
  • makes friends very easily
  • excellent reader
  • strong writing skills
  • good in math

Sydney...

  • doesn't turn in homework. period.
  • doesn't have appropriate folders signed by parent
  • has trouble focusing
  • is always helping someone
  • has a "gift for writing" (highest score in class on a writing assignment!)
  • great speller, and that's without studying
  • adds a "spark" to the classroom

we have work to do here in the sodeman house.

(but they are good writers!)

smiling -- my eldest proclaims he is a terrible writer, and his English teacher says he writes, "Just enough to get by." No interest. I was sad. Until this year when his World History teacher told him to create his own myth and write about it. 8 pages later...he couldn't stop, and it was GOOD. I think there's something cool and strong about our kids when they don't put forth effort in an area that holds no interest for them. I know that sounds completely wrong. But if we can relax and have confidence in them...there will be a moment when they bloom in their own gardens. I love it.

Never turns in homework. I'm laughing.
