tonight

Photobucket

My favorite part of the Olympics is tonight...women's
individual gymnastics. I'll never forget watching Mary Lou
in 1984, wanting to be her. I think I may have even had a flag
leotard. I'm rooting for Shawn Johnson...watch it. It starts
at 8pm.

I've been watching every evening , have you? These Olympics are really messing with my sleep.

Last year I got to meet Mary Lou. James' practice flew her in to speak to a group about hip replacement. I got to talk to her for a while. She was so funny. The best part was that even though she was wearing heels, I was taller than her. That has never happened!

I'm a little older than you, but I wanted to be Nadia Comaneci (1976 Montreal Olympic gymnast who, ironically, now teaches gymnastics here in Atlanta!)

But you are RIGHT! I love watching women's gymnastics. And swimming, and diving.... I just love Olympic season. It's so cool to see athletic competition that is still relatively "pure" (ie: for the love of SPORT, and not money, or lucrative multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts...)

PS: Glad you liked the "lamp" comment.... ! :-)

You know I was suppose to be an Olympic gymnast in my other life...oh wait was that a dream?
Oh, if only.
I can remember the
84' Olympics like it was yesterday. I would watch and then run outside to my trampoline and try to do exactly what they did. Needless to say, the trampoline in my backyard didn't get me to the Olympics.

Ooh I wanted to be Nadia too! Once I was in a skit for a Sunday School opening and I had to run down the middle aisle at church, do a cartwheel, and then do that arched-back, arms-to-the-sky salute in four directions - it was awesome! (well, my cartwheel was wobbly, but I lived the dream for a minute or two..)
