thrift scores.

A few posts back, someone wanted to see pictures of my (at the time) weekend project.

Duvet cover, white quilt, and lamp, compliments of Goodwill.

Lamp base was previously clear until I spray painted it white.

Dresser was light wood color with a missing drawer and no hardware.

Frames are Ikea - $5 ea.

Albeit small, updates like this give me a boost, especially when I keep my room clean, which isn't often. And I rather like waking up to those faces - especially the weeks they're with their dad and I am missing them.

Other recent projects include painting my beloved, simple-lined, thrifted couch. Not surprisingly, this was a complete fail unless I wanted a couch that could also be used as a nail file (though it did look cool). That's what happens when you browse Scandinavian decor blogs on a budget and wild delusions...you become convinced that your space will indeed mimic an urban loft with white walls and scads of light if your couch was just a different color.  In desperation, I've since replaced the painted couch with a massive, dreadful craigslist find reminiscent of conversion van seats.  It is hideous. Unfortunately, my girls do not share my distaste for the monstrosity and, in fact, "love" it as it is quite comfortable.

There really is only one explanation for their mutual appreciation of functionality at the expense of bad design...

I have officially failed as a mother.

I am saddened there isn't a pic of replacement non painted couch.

Sigh. I knew you'd ask.

Now I am inspired to find a way to make it look cool, even though I've already tried. Even worthy toss pillows look like doll house pillows on this thing. I think I saw it on the TLC episode of "2 Ton Man".

I will find a way.

And, browse couches on Craigslist in the meantime.

I believe I saw a picture on IG of the couch. Its big, but must admit it did look comfy :)
My couch is much the same- zero fashion, everything comfy. I have big square pillows to make it look decorative and a really awesome quilt to add some colour and spice.
I do LOVE your bedroom finds. Simply beautiful!

may all your fails be so brilliant - so beautiful. LOVE the infusion of scandanavian design making its way into your house xx

This is random, but a friend of mine painted her couch years ago and got it super smooth by sanding it with a sanding block after she painted it.

Thanks for posting pics...the room is so cozy! Something about that ethereal white, and waking up to your favorite faces! So glad you are back out here, your hiatus was much unappreciated, I spent way too much time on People.com. hehe I vote for a picture of the painted couch, I have a feeling the Craigslist couches will lack that crispy feel we are all hoping for! ;-)

Your room looks very serene, but I must admit my favorite part is the pile of books. Books are the best kind of clutter.

I'm reading "Broken Open" by Elizabeth Lesser right now, and wondered if you've read it. If you haven't yet, it might be something that you would dig.

Aimee - laughing...I already tried sanding it! It did help a little, but not enough.

Missing Molly - Checking out that book!

I am so happy to hear about your painted sofa disaster, just because it makes me feel better about my miserable attempt to whitewash my hardwood floors -- don't ask. (I mistakenly thought they couldn't look any worse.) I have decided to embrace the shabby in my more shabby than chic space.
