I might like my couch.

Perhaps it was the yellow inspiration of the last post, I don't know.
But after combining a forsythia branch, a pear, along with  a new paint
color and some touches of black, I almost like my couch.

I had sworn it'd be a long time before I returned to taupes and beiges.
I think because, in a way, it represented my old life...dysfunctional marriage,
dysfunctional church, and my prolonged denial of the two.  And, not to mention,
the good stuff I lost, too.  But, I found that with every brush stroke, I couldn't finish
fast enough.  It's warmer and richer and just makes me happy - especially with a fire in
the fireplace, chili on the stove, and three girls on the couch - the couch that is somehow
much less of a monstrosity with the new linen backdrop and hand-sewn pillows
on its cushions.

Here are some parting pictures of the vintage get-up, pre-couch painting...

While I miss the smaller scale of the flowered thrifted couch, I would not be
enjoying the improvements of my space, had it not been for completely failing
with that dreadful couch painting.  (If you give a mouse a cookie...)
It reminds me of something my friend Kathy always tells me...

Trust the process.

Take the risks, make the mistakes.

For by them, you could end up with a couch you just might like.

If I might offer my opinion. . .

I like your couch. I like your place. It's warm, cozy, and seems like a good place to curl up with a good book.

I think the yellow additions make it perfect.

But hey. . . that's me. I have a brown couch.

:)

I wish I had an ounce of your creative energy.

How now, Brown Couch? I love it. There's a simplistic elegance in your decorating and writing and I absolutely love them both. I have been doing a bit of redecorating in my home as well. It is like a breath of fresh air. Keep it up, you're doing wonderful...

Thank you for more inspiration that I may add to my home.

Good day to you.

Beautiful home pictures. I let myself be talked into buying a very expensive, what I thought was a beige couch..until I got it into my living room & the sun streaming in the windows turned it into a garish gold!! What I really wanted was the white Pottery Barn couch that I fell in love with years ago~all I got from Pottery Barn (or was it Ballard) was the cute little clock you have on your table. But fall & winter are coming~I use lots of throws & pillows & the garish gold tones almost look good with fall & Christmas colours. Enjoy your home~it's beautiful.

I have that same couch...and the love seat that matches it. I was terrified of it's enormity at first, but now I love that we can all snuggle so comfortably on it. I just painted my living room "totally teal" which is much classier than it sounds, but also kind of scary at first! And why oh why does chili in the crock pot and kids snuggled together just make everything better!?
Of course, an "autumn wreath" Yankee candle doesn't hurt either....

My cheeks are like, flaming red.

The couch is not hideous. I was being dramatic.

It's just...big - especially in a small room.

You are right, Erin...LOVE that we can all snuggle so comfortably on it.

I feel horrible now.

No!! Don't feel horrible! When we first got it delivered, I was cracking up that when I sat all the way back on it, my feet stuck straight out....didn't even KINDA touch the ground. I said it was from the "Gulliver's Travels" line at Art Van. ;). And I TOTALLY abhor the hideous pillows that came with it. I'm asking for a sewing machine for Christmas so I can make some cute covers for them. But it's got good bones, so we make it work, right? Hahaha! happy dreary Monday :) light a Yankee candle....

Erin, I am laughing out loud and feeling less horrible!

I said the EXACT SAME THING -that it was made for Gulliver! And, my legs totally stick straight out - like I'm five! I feel like Alice in Wonderland.

I got it off Craigslist, so there were no pillows with it. It looked nice in the pictures and then when I got there, I was like, "Whoa, it's massive." But, he was attractive and offered to deliver it. Ha. We nicked up the walls and ceiling a bit trying to get it through the door...then, later in the day he texted and said he was going to offer to touch up the paint, but that he figured I had some leftover paint from painting my couch.

Anyway...I'm off to light a candle in your honor!

My late great aunt always called it a davenport. That word will always remind me of her.
