I often take out the trash in the mornings, which means I throw the garbage bag on my car, drive over to complex dumpster, throw it in, and then drop the girls off at school, in that order. This morning was not unlike any other...I grabbed the keys, necessary school paraphernalia, and of course, the trash. Well, just as I was preparing to enter the school drive (it's really quite the parade with all the school officials, parent volunteers, and safety patrols waving on each car to ensure quick and efficient drop off procedures), I peeked in my rear view mirror and lo and behold, the trash was still on my trunk. The girls immediately freaked out while I tried hard not to laugh...I began fielding comments like, "Mom, this is so horrible. Please don't drop us off like this. Why did you do this? Why are you laughing?" I quickly turned off my blinker (trying very hard to conceal my laughter), and slowly drove to a nearby driveway where I put the trash in the trunk, turned back around, and finally, dropped them off at school.
Sigh.

that is So funny! I could just see your girls embarrassment in my head! It brought back memories of being dropped off at Montrose school in those old beater cars we used to have. Remember the ugly brown mini station wagon thing and the hideous white one?
LOL - that is too funny! that sounds like something I would do! your poor girls! i guess being the "cool mom" just went out the window, huh?
HILARIOuS!!!!!!!
oh... I can not stop smiling over this one! that is good!
your girls... i know my six year old would have freaked!
memories! OMGoodness!
And in that morning moment, the young mother taught her children humility. "Thank you mother dear, for you have taught us yet another lesson in the pathway of life", they said, "Bless you, wise sage of perpetual learning." And we can dream. Great glimpse into your vulnerability. Into each life, a little Hefty must fall. Ask your mother about a ladder, a station wagon and a full dismantling of any shred of self-dignity. I love you...stumbling and soaring.
What a memory-making day for the kids! I love it!!
hahahahhahahaahhahasnortahahhahaha
i miss you..if only just for these sorts of tales that encourage me that my own foibles have companions!
