So, while I'm working on another [religion] post, I want to know,
who are you?
I'd love to know your answers...
1.) How old are you?
2.) Where do you live?
3.) What are you listening to?
4.) What are you reading?
5.) Are you a Christian, Agnostic, Atheist, or other?
6.) What drives you?

5. I believe in a higher spirit but don't follow organized religion. I believe it is more important to live your life honestly and with compassion everyday - not just the 90 minutes you might spend in a house of religion on Saturday or Sunday.
6. At the end of the day as I lay in bed and ponder the day's events - did I do my best? Was a I kind - even in moments of frustration? If I talked to anyone in my inner circle (family-friends) did I end the conversation by telling them that I love them. Did I try one thing, that caused me step outside my comfort zone.

1.) How old are you? 35
2.) Where do you live? Canada
3.) What are you listening to? Pop, alternative, some classical.
4.) What are you reading? Plato, not Prozac!
5.) Are you a Christian, Agnostic, Atheist, or other? Spiritual, but I don't identify with anything in particular. Went to Catholic schools but my parents told me I could choose... but I'm ok believing my own thing and don't feel a huge need to belong to a group or share those beliefs with others.
6.) What drives you? For far too long I've been putting other peoples' demands and expectations ahead of my own enjoyment of life and lost myself. When I realized I was broken and in a relationship that was too fractured to heal, I left - him, my job, my country and all I had known for a decade. Thankfully we had no children together. Now I'm starting my life over and discovering who I am.. I guess that's what drives me, finding the courage to be me, at last.

I have faith that being awesome will get me everywhere I want to be.
Usually, I drive myself.
But, the rest of the time its coffee, being healthy, seeing the sun come up, eating really good food and drinking delicious wine (thats what a real connoisseur uses to describe wine)(I had to look up how to spell connoisseur).
I turned 30 this year...it was a tough one.
I live in Seattle...best city ever
My kids are addicted to Casper Babypants, thus causing me to listen to them.
I am reading Eragon and totally hooked on the series.
I am a Christian.

5. Christian (formerly Southern Baptist, but making ever attempt to be everything that type of organized religion is not).
6. What is currently driving me is a need for change. A need to find out, indeed, who I am. I just recently divorced my family of origin because of a horrible pattern of interaction for the first 35 years of my life. Now, I'm finally asking the question of what makes me tick. Not easy with a 2 year old and 4 year old, but I'm giving it my all.

2.) Takoma Park, MD, which is a hippy-dippy suburb of DC. I love it so much.
3.) At this very moment, The String Cheese Incident. They're my favorite band (in which all the members are alive and still touring/making music) and they're announcing their summer tour dates sometime today, so I'm very jittery. Their music is a bit of everything -- bluegrass, funk, rocknroll, electronic -- and the crowd that follows them is the craziest assortment of sparkly, colorful, theatrical, passionate people you ever want to meet.
4.) Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins. I've had more trouble getting into it compared to other books of his that I've read, but the plot just kicked it up a notch, so that's good...
5.) I was raised in the most wonderful, accepting, loving Episcopal church not far from where I live now. Christianity was a really big part of my life for a long time. When I got to college, I decided to major in Religious Studies. (I signed up for a course on the New Testament my second semester of freshman year, thinking it would be the easiest A of my life, but it ended up really challenging me and making me think). Obviously I was always very aware and respectful of other religions growing up, but becoming acquainted with them on such a deep level and really noticing the common ground among them made it impossible for me to identify myself as just one thing. I think that if anyone's got it right, it's probably the Buddhists -- but I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a Buddhist. I could also never, ever call myself an atheist. I guess I believe that there are energies at work in our world that affect us deeply but that we can't fully understand. Whether you call it good and evil, God and Satan, karma, or whatever, is up to you.
6.) Compassion.
(PS, have been reading your blog for awhile now, and just want to say that I love your spirit and honesty).

4) Let's see...I just finished Steven Tyler's manic biography (booze, boobs and blow...crazy!) and am now reading Hunter Games after a Lisa See marathon.
5) I'm a recovering Catholic...basically I'm very spiritual but don't ascribe to any specific dogma or organized religion (any more). My spirituality includes a love of Buddhism, a respect for Christianity, a dash of new age whacko...I think the world is a wild ball of interconnected energy and we need to love each other, be tolerant and kind. I think almost all religions and philosophies are like a sugar cookie at their core...the difference comes with what they add to the mix..sprinkles? chocolate chips? ALL of them are good and I appreciate them the same. I can't be boxed-in by ONE thought process or ONE logic.
6). What drives me is the thrill of accomplishing goals - be it running a marathon(s), finishing grad school, writing a book, being a great mom/wife/sister/friend. I've done all of these (some better than others!) but I've learned that being proud of myself never gets old. :)

I feel like its worth adding, for no reason in particular, that although I do not listen to anything specific, nor do I know names of songs or who or what band sings them, I do know all the words to more than can be imagined. Take for example, that link in your next post... when I clicked it and saw it was Indigo Girls - Closer To You, I thought to myself 'ya, I have never heard this song before. But then I knew every word (mostly).

6. My husband, kids, and family - finding happiness with them.
Hi there.....Oh, where to start. Who am I? I'm 45, woman, mother, lover and dweller of the universe. I was 30 when I found myself dying within the conservative, evangelical concrete walls that surrounded me since infancy. It had been coming for years but it took me awhile to find my power and breath and bravery to free myself. But oh how mighty our spirit is and when it needs to be free, will beg for freedom until it is found. I am atheist. Nothing above or below, but so much love and goodness surrounding. I think what drives me is the connection I have to my children, to be as good a person as I can be, for them, for me.
I know I'm a little late to be answering these questions (computer has been acting up) but I wanted to play along :)

6.) Faith, unconditional love, knowing we're in good hands, striving to be the best I can be...the rest is hard to explain. I know I shouldn't fear death, but I do. I have faith in the beyond, that I'll be looked after, but it's the only thing we need to do completely by ourselves, and it scares the shit out of me. The unknown, the vastness of eternity...if I think about it too long, it squeezes the air right out of me. This fear also drives me to make the most I can out of life, take on too much, bend over backwards in an attempt to perform feats of magic and break the time-space continuum to get it all done. For what? Not sure. The fear that I won't be enough, that I'll never get another chance at it, the fear that I'm done having babies so I've closed another chapter, the fear of not measuring up in my childrens' eyes, the fear of "What's my next big thing?" or even worse, the fear "Are there no more big moments in my life?" The rush to ensure I don't breeze past my "best before" date without putting up a fight.
Sorry, that was long-winded. I feel sad now. My ridiculousness sometimes makes me sad. But somehow your blog lets me know that I'm not alone. Thanks for that. You're a ray of light.

6. Jesus drives me, and my friends. I have amazing friends that I know will always carry me through any situation.
Carin, I'm reading your sister's book and I just want to say that I am SO excited that I found your blog. After reading your "I Have A Dream" speech, I just had an overwhelming feeling that I wished I knew you. Your words related so well to me and my life and you inspire me to embrace where I'm at. Single, strong and happy.
So glad that I can now follow your blog. Hope you're having a wonderful day!
